The rebranding project for Casa Gay 1893 builds on the concept of continuity. It is not about redefining the brand, but about reinforcing the visual identity that has made it recognizable for over a century. Updating without breaking: refining the essentials and optimizing how this graphic design system performs today.
This intervention brings the brand into the present while respecting its historic character. The name remains the core of the system, ensuring the corporate identity gains clarity, coherence, and presence without losing its warmth or its connection to its origins.
Identity
The logo design recovers the foundational typographic spirit through a typeface associated with late 19th and early 20th-century printing. We preserved the uppercase composition and reinforced its solidity through a more compact construction, designed to improve its performance across all digital and print formats.
The year 1893 is integrated as a structural element of the brand identity, not as an afterthought, underlining its legacy and strengthening its historic market positioning.
We reconstructed the graphic symbol from original sources, moving away from digital reinterpretations that had simplified and altered its proportions. The redraw recovers its stamp-like character, delivering a truer geometry and a more solid visual presence.
Editorial & Art Direction
The visual design system is articulated around the typography, the symbol, and a color palette that recovers the brand’s historic brown, expanding it with warm, natural tones connected to the culinary context.
The brand identity rolls out with criteria of clarity and consistency across packaging design, printed pieces, and corporate applications. The goal is not to add elements, but to organize and reinforce the existing ones, giving this entire editorial design project greater coherence and adaptability.
The result is a flexible visual identity system that maintains the brand’s artisanal character and heritage, fully optimized for contemporary use.
Tableware
To accompany and highlight the updated identity, and coinciding with its centennial, Casa Gay commissioned us for the product design of its own tableware collection as a tribute to Barcelona.
Our starting point references the hydraulic tile pavements of Catalan Modernism, but without falling into clichés or literal copies.
Thus, using the modular pattern of the hydraulic tile, we created a graphic system that turns into a series of suns, symbolizing the joy of Barcelona and the Mediterranean.
Web
The new web design translates the identity system into a clear and functional digital environment. We designed a content architecture that prioritizes readability, typographic hierarchy, and user experience.
The graphic identity adapts to the digital medium while maintaining its character: a balance between tradition and the present, between product and history. The result is a coherent web development where brand, content, and digital functionality work as a whole.
