Bartolomeo Bimbi (1648 – 1729) was a Florentine painter who became famous for his still lifes. He was commissioned by Cosimo III de Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, to portray his legendary citrus collection. With specimens brought from Far East and others created by his gardeners, this collection included hundreds of similar but very rare fruits. Most of the trees were lost during the war, but thanks to Bimbi’s paintings we are still able to appreciate them.
