John Blanche is a British illustrator recognized as one of the fathers of modern role-playing visual imagery. His passion for fantastic worlds led him to illustrate Tolkien’s bestiary and Dungeons & Dragons early in his career. In the late 70s, he started working for Games Workshop, the fantastic role-playing company, and its magazine, White Dwarf. His dark and recognizable style, which draws on Rembrandt, the Victorian romantics and Moebius, among many others, shaped the visual universe of the popular Warhammer games, of which he became art director in the 80s.
