gualada’s Cemetery was designed by Enric Miralles and Carme Pinós to be a place of reflection and remembrance.

They created their vision of a new type of cemetery where they consider those who rest, as well as their remaining family members.

The architects envisioned the cemetery to be the “City of the Dead,” where the dead and the living come together in spirit.

It is a place for those who will come and reflect in the solitude and serenity of the Catalonian landscape.

Miralles and Pinos wanted visitors to begin to understand and accept the cycle of life as a link between past, present and future.
Embedded in the mountains, the Igualada’s Cemetery is an earthwork that blends into the landscape as if it was a natural aspect of the land.
