In many cases, the iconic designs that we have in our minds were not created by conventionally trained designers. Precisely because they feed on stereotypes, clichés and trite concepts, they very often end up being widely accepted by the public. One of the cases we love most are the patches of NASA Astronaut uniforms, which are made by the astronauts themselves and where each one attempts to convey the values of the particular mission or his/her personal motivation through images and texts that typically recur in religious, patriotic or historical symbolism.
