Admired by artists such as Joan Brossa or Antoni Tàpies, Josefa Tolrà i Abril (Cabrils, 1880 – 1959) was a Catalan medium and self-taught artist who used to execute her works in trance. After the death of her two sons, she began to develop a drawing style that fascinated established artists due to its purity and surrealism. Her work was first exhibited at the Sala Gaspar in Barcelona in 1956 and is currently part of collections such as the Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid or Fundació Joan Brossa in Barcelona.
