Symbolic maps

Apparently, cartography is the science that intends to visually represent the world from a geographic perspective. However, it has usually carried a symbolic charge, in more or less explicit ways. Since the Ancient Greece, maps have been used to project political or religious ideas, and even to hide valuable information from the power point of view.
