Tristram Hillier was a British surrealist painter born in Beijing. He lived in the south of France, from where he travelled a lot to Spain and the Balkans.Some of his works, influenced by his stays abroad, portray Spanish coasts and cities. The contrast of bright colours with static compositions gives his landscapes and still lifes an unsettling, artificial character.
